New President of the American College Counseling Association Named

The mental health care industry is growing quickly, thanks to the sweeping health care bill that was passed earlier this year. Now, one of the leading counseling associations has named its new president for the upcoming year.

Dr. Mary-Jeanne Raleigh, the current director of Counseling Services at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, was recently elected president of the American College Counseling Association (ACCA) for the 2011-12 year.

The ACCA is composed of mental health professionals with various backgrounds, such as counseling, psychology and social work, who work to promote ethical and responsible professional practice and provide leadership for counseling in higher education, according to to the organization website.

She has been the director of counseling services at the college since 2008 and has over 20 years of experience in the mental health field. She is a licensed professional counselor in Maryland, according to the website and received her Ph.D. from Antioch University New England.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of counselors is expected to increase by 18% between 2008 and 2018.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19903962-ADNFCR
