Many individuals who are interested in entering a career in psychology may see an increase in demand for their services this winter. Recently, counselors have seen a number of individuals suffer from the effects of the large blizzards that have interrupted their daily lives.

Experts say that situations that leave people feeling helpless, such as massive snow storms, can have negative psychological effects, according to FOX News. Although individuals typically do not realize it at the time, storms may evoke memories of despair, such as the death of family members or illnesses that have affected loved ones.

Research has found that individuals also typically get the blues over storms because of the inability to predict them. However, psychologists believe that reminding patients to focus on their lack of control in the situation can ease their anxiety. Focusing on the positives, such as having a roof over their heads and being unscathed by the storm, can also be beneficial.

Psychologist jobs are predicted to increase by 12% over the next 7 years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. An aptitude test can help individuals determine if they are fit to find a job in the field.
