Graduates from the class of 2009 and the class of 2010 are facing an almost impenetrable job market in some areas. However, job opportunities are starting to pop up and organizations are ready to hire. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, college graduates with psychology degrees are finding jobs at summer camps for the season, while waiting for the economy and job industry to stablize. "We've hired some of the most talented staff I think we've ever had. We have had more people than ever who are in their later 20s and 30s because of the depressed market," said Tina Krinsky, director of Julian Krinsky Camps, which hires 500 counselors and staff, to the news source. Graduates with psychology jobs are desirable are summer camp counselors due to their knowledge of children and group psyche. The news source reports that Camp Ramah hired 24 counselors this year - twice as many as last year. As the unemployment rate for 16 - 24 year olds stays at a solid 9%, many college graduates who are looking for jobs are turning to their favorite summer activity for employment. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics overall employment of counselors is expected to grow by 18% between 2008 and 2018. |
