As the economy is slowly recovering, many businesses are starting to switch from a "saving" mentality to a "growing" mentality. One counseling center worked to raise enough money to expand and add jobs, in a time when economic stability cannot be taken for granted.

According to the Des Moines Register, the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center met its Campaign for Hope and Healing fundraiser goal of $2.8 million. The center will use that money to start building a new 14,200 square-foot facility, which is twice as large as their current rented space.

"We are thrilled that so many individuals and organizations stepped forward to make this dream become a reality. It is indeed remarkable that the campaign goal was met during such a difficult economic environment," former Lt. Governor Sally Pederson told the news source.

The money raised from the center will also provide employment for up to 10 new licensed counselors, which would allow for more than 70% more clients to be served within the next five years.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment of counselors is expected to increase up to 18% between 2008 and 2018.
