Students of psychology and counseling go on to unearth the causes of these phenomena to help promote confidence and overcome obstacles. Careers in counseling can help individuals develop the mindset and skills to find careers of their own. A Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation counseling service last year served 1,500 people in the Paducah district and put almost 250 jobless individuals back to work, the Kentucky Post reports. The Preparing Adults for Competitive Employment (PACE) program aims to provide support and rehabilitation for people with disabilities like alcohol and substance abuse, physical ailments and debilitating disease as they seek employment. Micki Poole, who worked with PACE to find a job and overcome cerebral palsy now works as a receptionist at Ulrich Medical Concepts. Poole told the news source, "The people at [PACE] are so good to work with because they helped me overcome concerns about job placement and my physical limitations." Under the program, employers are not obligated to keep the workers if complications arise, and employees typically start with low salaries and try to work their way up. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the employment of counselors is expected to increase by 21% until 2016, with the number of job openings expected to exceed the number of graduates with degrees in counseling. |
