Involved in a highly specialized and relatively new field, computer science professionals continue to demonstrate the value that their industry can produce to businesses, schools, healthcare and society at large. Through technical practice and use of computer skills, those with careers in information technology and computer science are developing innovative programs to perform tasks which are often spoiled by human error or constraint.

Computer scientists from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore are developing a mechanical system it hopes will help autistic children understand the emotions of others. The system will locate and interpret facial expressions of the effected children and catalog them using algorithms known as boosting classifiers.

The project's researchers, who work at the Centre for Computational Intelligence of the School of Computer Engineering assert that "emotion is a state of feeling involving thoughts, physiological changes, and an outward expression. In this study, we propose a system that synergizes the use of derivative filtering and boosting classifier."

The Bureau of Labor Statistics determined that the computer scientists and database administrators field is expected to grow by 37% until 2016, which is about 28% more growth than the average occupation over the same time period.
