The technology field has faced some pretty turbulent times with the recession. Although the field continues to grow as many businesses incorporate technology into their company, information technology (IT) workers are finding that there is a limited need for the profession as many business are hiring internally. However, as the economy continues to heal, more companies are looking to invest in technology again, and IT workers are starting to see a bright future. The IT Employee Confidence Index increased to 50.8 in the fourth quarter of 2009, up 0.6 points from the previous quarter. Approximately 38% of respondents indicated that they would be looking for a new job. Additionally, 66% answered that they felt confident in their current employer, and that their companies were in stable condition for the future. Analysts believe that this is an indicator of the good things to come throughout 2010 in terms of employment. "Companies are now looking to hire critical IT talent, not only with deep-seated technical skills, but also with the business savvy to articulate the IT value proposition across multiple departments," Michael Winwood, president of Technisource, said in a statement. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers in IT will increase by 17% by 2018. |
