People who have careers in information technology but may be interested in something different are being reminded that their skills actually qualify them for a wide range of new opportunities.

This week, author and career consultant Janice Weinberg released a statement highlighting 20 new career fields that IT professionals should find themselves well-positioned to explore.

Among the careers suggested by Weinberg are technology due diligence, CRM software marketing, cyber liability insurance underwriting and equity analysts covering the computer industry. Weinberg says that many of her proposed careers can be launched without any additional training for most IT professionals, although she notes that some will require certification and others can serve as springboards to new kinds of consulting opportunities.

Weinberg also suggests that IT workers are well placed to becoming forensic accountants, healthcare administrators or technology attorneys.

The first two job categories have particular growth potential. Forensic accountants are in demand because of the growing number of financial fraud investigations and what is likely to be a greater emphasis on regulatory compliance in the future.

Healthcare administrators with IT skills will also be in demand because the recent economic stimulus bill contains billions of dollars to train people for the task of upgrading and modernizing the nation's medical records systems.
