For unemployed individuals looking for careers, temporary work can help pay the bills and allow a professional to stay active in the working world. One of the benefits of holding a temporary position is it can provide contacts with other professionals for networking purposes when the job market opens its doors again. Many people who are out of work have pursued temp jobs as a way to stay involved.

With the US Census Bureau preparing for their decennial tally, the organization plans to employ 1.4 million temporary workers, which will drastically improve unemployment statistics, according to the Washington Times. It is estimated that the government agency will add 1 million jobs between March and May.

"At this time, in the recession we are all going through, these jobs are valued by the population," Robert Groves, the bureau's director, told the news source. "The hiring process that we're going through reaches out to unemployed people disproportionately."

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 57.6% of all temporary workers are between the ages of 25 and 54.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19624943-ADNFCR
