Graduates who want to experience a number of different sectors or who would just like greater flexibility to fit their work around their lifestyle might be interested in the benefits of temporary employment.

According to News 10 Now, temp positions differ from permanent jobs because they are fixed for a certain period.

The site adds that with the worldwide economic downturn, permanent positions are "becoming harder to land", making temping an attractive option for newly minted degree holders.

Jana Zabinski, who has been temping for a number of years, said the work has given her the chance to experience different industries from finance to fashion without forcing her to commit to one career path.

Furthermore, the site said, more people are choosing to pursue temp jobs because they tend to offer a greater work-life balance.

However, Ms Zabinski said, while her pay checks are steady, temp salaries can vary because they are based on the specific duties of each post.

Temp jobs are normally organised through staffing companies, who find placements for their clients.

According to figures from the American Staffing Association, 11.4 million temporary and contract employees are hired by US staffing firms each year. Around 79% of these employees work full-time.
