10 October 2008
A new report has revealed that around 1 million new jobs could be created if the next US president invests a total of $100 billion in a green American economy.

USNews.com reported that a new study issued by the Political Economy Research Institute found that the market for eco-jobs is expanding in the US, with a number of opportunities cited for strong growth by recruiters in the coming years.

These include careers as forestry or agriculture supervisors, social responsibility officers, construction managers to oversee green building projects and renovations, engineers, electricians, transportation supervisors and dispatchers, database specialists

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of architects will increase by 18% between 2006 and 2016.

The handbook also asserts that due to increasing demand on water and environmental resources thanks to a growing population, employment of environmental scientists may increase by 25% over the same period.

"Further demand should result from the need to comply with complex environmental laws and regulations, particularly those regarding ground-water decontamination, clean air, and flood control," the handbook states.

In addition, a continued need for environmental monitoring and ecosystem restoration strategies could create further job growth in this sector.ADNFCR-1502-ID-18821936-ADNFCR
