Many workers think they deserve a higher salary, but the secret to getting more money is to show your employer you are worth it. Employment expert Liz Benuscak told the Courier Post Online that preparing to negotiate a pay raise is similar to preparing for a job interview. She suggested that people make a list of everything they have accomplished recently, then practice outlining these achievements as if it were a sales pitch. "You need to ask yourself, what were the challenges that you faced over the year, what are the actions that you took and what were the results that you achieved," she said. Ms Benuscak advised employees to schedule a meeting with their manager to discuss the list and point out how much they are worth in the job market. Meanwhile, Walter Keller wrote in the Wall Street Journal's CareerJournal.com that before negotiating pay, job candidates should research average salaries in their field and be prepared to offer a target figure. |
