As the job market continues to lighten a bit in terms of hiring freezes, more individuals are competing for coveted positions. Because of the number of layoffs during the recession coupled with the number of graduates who are still pursuing a career, the job market has become increasingly cut-throat as more people vie for positions. In order to stand out, potential employees must work on their interview skills in order to impress employers. Interviews are the key component to the hiring process. Managers are often looking for the most competent employees, which they will determine through an interviewee's qualifications. Individuals who are in the midst of a job search cannot prepare enough for an interview – they always need to be at the top of their game as some employers like to throw out curveball questions. Experts believe that some interviewers are getting a little too personal rather than looking for the most qualified candidates, leading many to believe some managers do not know how to properly interview. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment prospects may rest on the level of degree an individual holds. The higher the academic attainment an individual has, the less likely they are to be unemployed.  |
