The overall job market is slowly recovering, but some industries are getting back on their feet faster than others. People who have acquired degrees in specialized fields are starting to see a high demand for their skills. According to the North American Precis Syndicate (NAPS), there are currently more than five job seekers for every job opening, and people with degrees in fields such as accounting are in high demand to fill many of those positions. Due to these increased opportunities, more college students are now considering accounting programs that address the needs of the business community, according to the news source, while schools across the country are starting to expand their offerings in accounting. Rasmussen College is one of the colleges currently expanding their accounting program by offering various courses in financial accounting, tax, international accounting and auditing. "The economic downturn has opened the door for growth in the accounting industry, giving graduates with degrees in this field a clear advantage in the job market," said Tamryn Hennessy, the national director of career development at Rasmussen College, to the news source. "As regulators are tightening their scrutiny on company finances across the board, there is urgency in the industry for the most up-to-date accounting candidates." According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in the accounting field is expected to grow 22% between 2008 and 2018. |
