A career in internal audit is a great way to play an important and increasingly positive role within a blue chip company. Roland Seddon, director of recruitment specialist Hays Senior Finance, said internal auditors perform a "crucial function" that is increasingly in demand within leading firms. Furthermore, graduates in the field who land jobs with blue chip organizations often themselves "well placed for the most juicy line positions" within one to three years of starting, Mr Seddon added. According to the Department of Labor, internal auditors assess the effectiveness of their company's internal controls and oversee the system to check for mismanagement, waste and fraud. They also review company operations, evaluate efficiency and measure compliance with both corporate policies and statutory regulations. By 2016, the number of internal audit and accounting jobs in the United States is expected to hit 1.5 million posts. In May 2006, average median earnings for these professions were $54,630 with variations by specific job duties and location. |
