Those who enter the field of finance are not only good with numbers, but they also demonstrate a unique understanding of today's ever-changing economy. With advances in digital technologies, money changes not only hands but digital accounts around the world in mere seconds. The American Insititue of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) recently released its annual report focusing on accounting graduates. For the 2007-2008 school year, more than 66,000 individuals achieved accounting bachelor's or master's degrees which presented a 3.5 increase from the previous year. AICPA vice president Jeannie Patton observed that "students clearly recognize the attractiveness of accounting as a rewarding and fulfilling career path" Out of this group, 51 % of new degree holders were female while the remaining 49 % were male. Those who hope to enter the accounting field should be encouraged by Bureau of Labor Statistics that anticipate job growth in the field to expand by 18% until 2016. Between 2006 and 2016, the BLS reports that there will be over 200,000 new accounting jobs thanks to new businesses and a shifting economy.  |
