Many people become artists to surround themselves with beauty, and make it their occupation and pursuit. Authorities in the arts will cite the mystically soothing and emotive qualities art can inspire to one who allows himself to appreciate it. Some, in fact, consider it their job to line the streets with this splendor for all to see.

Last week, popular street artist Shepard Fairey unveiled a new exhibit in front of the Levi's store in Manhattan's Times Square to promote the launch of the limited edition Obey x Levi's apparel collection.

The artwork is a college of images which obliquely refer to an array of social issues, including global warming and the power of propaganda.

"I've always felt that keeping my art bold, simple and refined was a way to cut through the clutter," said Fairey. "It's a formula that Levi's has been using for decades that keeps them accessible and populist yet stylish and relevant."

A graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in fine arts, Fairey became a household name after drafting the "Hope" poster of President Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the employment of artists and related workers is expected to grow 16% through 2016.
