Hollywood bloggers have been a huge presence in the entertainment industry as of late. Perez Hilton, Nikki Finke and the many authors of Gawker.com have been fixtures among Google searches for news about top celebrities. Individuals with careers in online blogging have to know how to market themselves in order to reach a large fan base. These individuals are just examples of finding success in their niche. The cable channel HBO believes in the hype of online bloggers, and has decided to develop a show that will mirror some of the most powerful entertainment writers on the web, according to The Hollywood Reporter. As many media outlets have ventured into the online landscape, creating a show with this premise appears to be an attempt to keep up with the times. The comedy series was developed by two Hollywood heavyweights- Bill Condon, who won an Oscar for writing Gods and Monsters, and HBO's Tell Me You Love Me creator, Cynthia Mort. Perhaps a testament to the current career landscape, 19% of all journalists are self-employed, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. |
