The task of jotting one's thoughts onto a piece of paper can be mentally taxing but entirely rewarding. Aspiring writers may stare in frustration at a blank page or computer screen, attempting to extract inspiration from all sorts of sources. Some may find that their inspiration and career path may emerge out of daily conventions like wining and dining. A group of 30 journalists have cooperated to begin publishing Zester Daily, a new site that covers the finer points of food and drink. Former writers from the Los Angeles Times recruited colleagues, cookbook writers, wine critics, health, environment and political writers to begin producing the online publication. The website's organizers emphasize how the publication allowed careers in writing to develop out of the writers' personal interests. "Zester Daily is not a reflection of one vision, but a collection of voices, making it a refreshingly authentic place for readers and a wonderfully liberating place for our writers," said Corie Brown, founder of the online publication and former writer for the Times. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the employment of writers and editors will likely grow by 10% until 2016. Most of the growth in this field will satisfy a demand for web-based publications. |
